Varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, is an infectious disease caused by the varicella-zoster virus. it is spread through contact with an infected person or through the air by coughing and sneezing. the virus enters the body through the nose or mouth and multiplies in the throat and lungs before spreading throughout the body. symptoms include fever, fatigue, and a characteristic rash of itchy, red bumps that eventually turn into fluid-filled blisters.
